FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

COLLEGE STUDENTS HAVE UNTIL APRIL 1 TO APPLY FOR SISKIYOU MOUNTAIN CLUB’S WILDERNESS CONSERVATION CORPS SUMMER TRAIL CREW

17 March 2015 | Ashland, OR — The Siskiyou Mountain Club (SMC) still has a few positions to fill for our 2015. The paid internship starts on June 19 with a week of unpaid training in a wilderness setting. After that the crew goes to work on four ten-day work hitches working on trails projects in the Soda Mountain, Wild Rogue, and Kalmiopsis federal wilderness areas. Interns complete curriculum in writing, American literature, and natural resources.

The crew reads everyday and keeps a journal used for blog content. They participate in a nature and journal writing workshop upon entry, and upon their exit complete a workshop in drafting resumes and cover letters. Interns receive a $40 per-diem which is paid out monthly, and a $1,600 scholarship for tuition and fees after completing the program successfully.

Applicants should be in good physical shape and able to walk for 10 miles over rough terrain carrying up to 50lbs. Crew members must be dynamic in remote environments and be comfortable with no access to communication technology. We are selecting applicants who are on course to get into a career of field work. Tobacco and digital devices are not allowed while on the trail.

Go to www.siskiyoumountainclub.org/wcc2015 for details and to apply. We are accepting applications until April 1 and will make hiring decisions by May 1. Call 541-708-2056 or email gabe@siskiyoumountainclub.org with questions.
