Help promote your National Trails System in two minutes

for the Siskiyou Hiker
by Gabriel Howe, executive director

13 SEPTEMBER 2018 | ASHLAND, OR. — On October 2, 1968, Lyndon B. Johnson signed the National Trail Systems Act, paving the way for America’s great trails. We are celebrating our local trail systems exactly 50 years later, this October 2, 2018 with the Pacific Crest Trail Association at REI in Medford (85 Rossanley Drive).

Follow our Facebook page for the event!

I’ll enter you into a drawing to win one of my signature hand-restored axes. I will hand deliver it to you by the end of the year.

Please accept this as a personal invitation to that event, and you can sign up here, or just show up. It starts at 6pm and will be an amazing time, with a short program that includes a crosscut saw demonstration.

I’m trying to get some buzz around the event, and I could really use your help with the promotion. Please, please, please take two minutes of your time and help:

1. Write #trailsmatter on a sheet of paper at least 11.5 x 8.5 inches. Or print out the attachment. That’s what I did because my handwriting looks worse than my seven year old’s.

Follow our Facebook page for the event!

2. Take a picture of yourself or you with your friends, holding the sign. Ideally you should take the picture outside on a trail, but if you can’t, that’s fine, too. I took mine in front of a trail sign and that worked well.

3. Write one or two sentences that includes who you are, any affiliation you want to include, and why trails are important to you. Mine reads, “I’m Gabe Howe, executive director of Siskiyou Mountain Club. #Trailsmatter because they lead to the most amazing places.”

Pictures with logos, uniforms, and regalia are a plus to help share your organization’s support of our National Trails System.

4. Send the picture and the sentence to info@siskiyoumountainclub.org, or post the picture and your copy both straight to Facebook and tag @Siskiyou Mountain Club, and me, too!

I will use your photo as to help with promotion leading up to the event.

Oh, and don’t forget to mark your calendar for October 2, exactly 50 years after the National Trails System Act was signed. It will be an amazing event with PCTA, REI, and all hands on deck!

Thank you — thank you — thank you.
