28 AUGUST 2019 | CAVE JUNCTION, OR. — We’ve got a line up of weekend backpacks ahead, with a twist of service. Join us this late summer and early fall for one. You need food and basic backpacking gear for each of these trips, but we can help provide backpacking equipment if you give us good notice.
Just email info@siskiyoumountainclub.org for details and to sign up.
Sept. 5 – 8: Victory in the Siskiyou
This (approximately) 40 mile backpack starts from the East Fork of the Illinois River and climbs stream side through old growth forests all the way to Young’s Valley. From there descend Clear Creek and climb its West Fork all the way to Harrington Lake. End on the rugged Boundary Trail all the way to Elk Valley.

The route is dreamy, but comes with a challenging elevation profile. You should have strong backpacking experience and be in strong physical shape.
We provide the shuttle and leadership. Email info@siskiyoumountainclub.org or call or text 541-708-2056 for details and to sign up.
Sept. 13 – 15: Maintain the Sucker Creek Trail, Red Buttes Wilderness
It’s only a couple of miles long, but this trail needs work. It’s god a lot of log downs, a couple of which are complex, and plenty of brush. So come pull a crosscut and run some loppers through this historic trail that services the Red Buttes Wilderness.
Beginners are welcome, but you should be prepared to camp out at a small spot along the banks of Sucker Creek. And you should be ready to put in a few full days of work.

The trip is being lead by our own deputy director, Karly White, and USFS field ranger Andrea Humbert. Andrea and Karly say they’re not going home until the project is finished.

October 3 – 5: Hike the western leg of Monument to Monument Route
Hike the last 30 miles of this monumental traverse between the Cascade-Siskiyou to the Oregon Caves national monuments, and hang signs along the way.
Start from Cook ‘n Green Pass and traverse the rocky ridgescape from there to Cedar Basin and Azalea Lake. From there, ascend to the forested ridges of the Boundary Trail and climb to Mt. Elijah before dropping into the Oregon Caves visitor center.
The hike is about 30 miles, and moderate, albeit with some steep pitches. Help trip leader Karly White hang some much needed signs along the way.
