09 OCTOBER 2018 | BROOKINGS, OR. — It’s been a year since the Chetco Bar Fire started to slow down, and we’ve been working in its footprint since March 2018. Check out this trail complex in the Kalmiopsis Wilderness’s western arm to catch some amazing views, and also check out the work we’ve been doing there with the Gold Beach Ranger District.

From the Johnson Butte Trail 1110, you will catch unmatched views, and on the clearest fall days you’ll be able to make out Crissey Field Beach and the surf of the Pacific breathing behind it.
From its junction with Upper Chetco Trail 1102, head west toward the Chetco River and hop on the Tincup Trail 1117 to the Tincup Trailhead. If you’re not feeling as ambitious, head out the Johnson Butte Trail for a day.
Upper Chetco Trailhead at Quail Praire is another jumping off point, and further to the south is the Red Mountain Trail 1105 that connects to the Navy Monument Trail 1105A. You can read more about that here.
