Help bring Kalmiopsis Rim Trail 1124

Back to life

19 October 2015 | Kalmiopsis Wilderness, OR: Whetstone Butte — Help us this Thursday, October 22 on a brush wall that has swallowed the Kalmiopsis Rim Trail 1124 just a couple miles north of the Onion Camp Trailhead. The SMC van leaves Ashland Shop N’ Kart at 7:30am, with rendezvous options in Medford, Grants Pass and Selma. We’ll be back to Ashland by 7pm.

This trip is perfect for anyone, even if you don’t have prior experience maintaining trails. All you need is a good attitude, a pair of sturdy boots, durable pants, and enough food and water for the day. We provide tools, leadership and transportation. Just email gabe@siskiyoumountainclub.org or call 541-708-2056 for details and to sign up.

Hiking through these areas can be demoralizing, slowing high speed hikers down to a sluggish pace, or turning them around altogether

Brush walls swallow entire trails hole in areas where the 2002 Biscuit Fire scorched the tree canopy, providing a sunny canker of shrubs, saplings and downed logs…

Hiking through these areas can be demoralizing, slowing high speed hikers down to a sluggish pace, or turning them around alltogether.

Count on exponentially more trips, falls, scrapes, scratches and sores. But working on them is extremely rewarding, and you won’t go home confused about why you helped.

The Kalmiopsis Rim Trail is a 28 mile artery that runs north to south along the Wilderness’s eastern boundary, dividing the Chetco and Illinois watersheds. It provides access to a number of other routes, including access to the Upper Chetco River. Help us bring this trail back to life and sign up for one day on the trail.
