Siskiyou Mountain Club is a nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting communities to their public lands through trail stewardship. We maintain over 380 miles of backcountry trails in Southwest Oregon and Northwest California. We work with staff teams, volunteers, and our own Wilderness Corps Program to do the hard work it takes to preserve our region’s backcountry trails.

Job Description
Field Coordinators are the behind-the-scenes operatives of our field programs, serving as primary field liaisons while crew staff is field bound. They are instrumental in the success of our mission, providing logistical support and coordination to support our Corps, staff, and volunteer crews.


Terms
Position runs March 15, 2022 through July 31, 2022. with some flexibility for an ideal candidate. May be extended. $16 – 18 per hour. Reports to Program Manager.

Benefits

  • Employer health package. Employer covers 67% of health premium. Employee eligible after 60 days of full time employment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Field Leadership

  • Oversee remote on-boarding of Corps interns. Interns complete a set of courses, interact online, and submit assignments
  • Responsible for coordinating First Aid/CPR and other trainings 
  • Drive crews to and from trailheads in SMC full-passenger vans, full-sized pickups, and other vehicles
  • Provide coordination and support for crews on their days off
  • Coordinate with staff and partners to deliver enrichment and professional programming
  • Provide support for crews on their days off including transportation 

Communication

  • Serves as a primary liaison between field crews, Program Managers, and other staff 
  • Follow succinct instructions 
  • Provide communication and representation with general public, agency staff, internal staff, interns, and stakeholders
  • Coordinate with staff, interns, and partners 
  • Serve as a primary representative to the community 

Maintenance, training, and other duties

  • Maintain fleet. Coordinate with staff and vendors to oversee repairs, maintenance. 
  • Check tools in and out, mainain inventory, clean vehicles after hitches
  • Provide training for interns
  • Assist with tool maintenance
  • Support interns with logistics and coordination on their days off
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Experience

  • Clean driving record
  • Outstanding driver able to complete SMC driver training. Must be able to drive passenger-vans and full-sized pickups for up to 12 hours in one day. 
  • Must be able to navigate to and from remote trailheads using paper maps 
  • Exceptional communication skills. Must be able to coordinate across the organization and with partners. 
  • Ability to supervise groups for activities outside of field work 
  • Must thrive in an environment with candid communication and direct feedback
  • Punctuality and ability to work long and odd hours
  • Must work weekends and holidays as needed
  • First Aid/CPR
  • Clean driving record and ability to pass SMC driving test
  • Strong computer skills
