For Immediate Release: Siskiyou Outdoor Store grand opening April 13: “Every dime goes to trails.”

21 MARCH 2023 | ASHLAND, OR. — Siskiyou Outdoor Store is inviting the community to their grand opening on Thursday, April 13 from 6pm – 9pm at 33 N 3rd Street in Ashland, Oregon, downstairs from the Ashland Fly Shop. Thereafter, the shop will be open Thursday – Saturday between 10:00 A.M. and 6:00 P.M.

Siskiyou Outdoor Store is a nonprofit outdoor supplier operated by Siskiyou Mountain Club, a 501(c)(3) public charity established in 2010. All proceeds from purchases at the store go to maintain 400+ miles of trails the Club manages throughout Northwest California and Southwest Oregon.

“Foremost, we aim to be a community store,” says executive director Gabriel Howe. “My staff are passionate about this landscape and are ready to point you in the right direction for your next adventure.” The store maintains an active community calendar and takes sign ups for day hikes, overnight trips, volunteer trips, as well as clinics like our Backpacker’s Academy.

That service comes with a selection of gear, trail supplies, books, trail maps, and other provisions curated by the Club’s field staff who spend 100+ nights on the trail each year. SOS also carries a line of field guides, natural history books, regional curiosities, and a collection of local wilderness maps the Club designs and issues.

“This is very exciting news,” writes Jackson County Commissioner Colleen Roberts in an email. “And I wish you the best.”

Club members, students, and teachers enjoy a 5% discount on purchases. All proceeds from SOS go to match U.S. Forest Service grants that support our field staff, volunteers, and interns who do the hard work it takes to keep our region’s trails alive. “Every dime goes to trails,” says Howe.

The store’s gear line includes fuel, backpacking stoves and cookware, tents, pads, sleeping bags, freeze-dried-meals, compasses, headlamps, and other overnight essentials for your lightweight backpacking or camping trip. We proudly carry products from our partners Therm-a-Rest, MSR, Platypus, Backpacker’s Pantry, Gregory Packs, Nalgene, and Fox River Socks (Made in USA), and others. We look for domestic suppliers and buy with a preference for products made in the United States.
