We are a nonprofit organization that works to preserve America’s backcountry experience through trail stewardship. We restore, maintain, and promote trails in the Siskiyou backcountry, and do the hard work it takes to keep over 375 miles of backcountry trails alive. Our seasonal trail crews continue saving countless trail miles lost to fire and maintenance deferments on federal lands throughout our region.

Benefits and pay

  • Term: Starts at 16 – 20 hours per week and potentially grows to full time.

About the job

Siskiyou Mountain Club is embarking on a programmatic expansion and is looking for the ideal candidate to support administrative functions as we grow. Work two days per week in our Ashland office. Ideally the job grows into a permanent full time position after six months. The best candidates will demonstrate strong initiative and be excited to grow their position with the organization and further develop a diverse skill set. 

Reports to program manager. Approximately 85% of the job is in an office setting. Approximately 15% of the job is on tasks outside of the office.

Responsibilities and tasks

If you like the idea of wearing a lot of hats, this job could be for you. You will be responsible for supporting a significant expansion and expected to be flexible. Responsibilities and tasks include but are not limited to: 

    • Maintain office space in downtown Ashland, OR. for staff and visitors
    • General bookkeeping. Includes data entry, payroll, and filing
    • Compliance management. Maintain digital and physical records and review and submit required filings. 
    • Organize media including photos, videos, and narratives
    • Provide logistical support with general errands, purchases, and delivery
    • Manage incoming and outgoing mail
    • Provide public outreach from our office. Interact with public, donors, and stakeholders. Vet and respond to inquiries via email and phone. 
    • Database management. Data entry, run reports, etc. 
    • Event support. Provide support in preparing and coordinating community events.
    • Provide insight and input in meetings to help advance the organization’s mission
  • Other tasks as assigned. 

Qualifications

  • Current on Covid-19 and other vaccines
  • Flexible and effective at multi-tasking
  • Critical thinker with strong problem solving skills
  • Must be an eligible driver and able to pass SMC driver training course
  • Be excited to learn and follow directions
  • Exceptional communication skills. 
  • Must work well in groups and independently. 
  • Strong computer skills and an appetite to learn more. Must have basic understanding of word processing, spreadsheets, and general operating functions of a computer. 
  • Attention to detail and an ability to follow through on multi-step assignments
