Hiring River Ranger Intern: May 1 – July 31

02 APRIL 2018 | HAPPY CAMP, CALIF. — Spend your spring and summer 2018 on the beautiful Klamath River in the remote reaches of Northern California. Receive a $1,000 monthly stipend, develop a strong skill set, and live in Happy Camp, California in free U.S. Forest Service housing.

We’re hiring a River Ranger Intern to work May 1 – July 31 in the Klamath National Forest’s Happy Camp Ranger District. The intern will work and learn with a permanent US Forest Service Ranger with decades of experience on the Klamath. This is a chance to work in an amazing place and build a career that is defined by reward, adventure, and endless opportunity to explore.

On August 1, you will have a resume, the skills, and the insight you need to log into USAJobs.gov and get hired working on America’s great rivers for a real job. 50% of your time will be worked on river recreation, and the other half will be spent on removing and managing invasive weeds.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily patrols of river and its tributaries. Clean campsites, post signs, remove invasives from river corridor.
  • Greet public with information and provide education outreach to users
  • Lead other volunteers
  • Collect and compile visitor data and assist with special use permits
  • Remove invasive plants, brush, litter
  • Keep details records of river use and work completed

    Qualifications and expectations

  • Ability to spend five days a week on river.
  • Lift, carry, load, and inflate boats.
  • Paddle inflatable kayak
