Wilderness Spring Break 2014: March 24-26

Spend your spring break doing something excellent.

South Kalmiopsis
Join the Club March 24-26 for a volunteer backpack in the Kalmiopsis Wilderness Area. On Monday the 24th we’ll carpool up to the Babyfoot Lake Trailhead and hike in 4-6 miles, depending on water conditions. We’ll set up camp that day and spend a few hours getting acquainted with the tools and working.

Then Tuesday we’ll work all day on heavy brushing projects and cutting some downed logs. Over the entire day we’ll get a lot done and you’ll notice a huge difference on the way back. Tuesday night we’ll eat a big dinner, and hike out Wednesday morning.

We’ll be camping on a high ridge in the South Kalmiopsis where we’ll have awesome views of the Kalmiopsis’ deep recesses. It’s possible we will encounter a patch of Kalmiopsis leachiana, a relic flower specie related to rhododendrons and azaleas, which could also be in bloom.

The Club provides help with transportation, tools, leadership and food. You provide some basic backpacking gear and an adventurous attitude.
